How To Choose a Suitable Slurry Pump

Nov. 05, 2020

Slurry pump, as the name implies, is a centrifugal pump that conveys a mixture of solid particles containing scum and water. It is widely used in mining, power plants, dredging, metallurgy, chemical, building materials and petroleum industries. Because the conveying medium generally contains solid particles, coupled with poor application conditions, the service life of the Slurry Pump is generally low, so it is particularly important to choose a suitable slurry pump

Choose the right product type

There are many types of slurry pumps, and we must select the appropriate pump type according to the properties of the slurry and meet the requirements of the working conditions. According to their use, there are ash and slag pumps, ash flushing pumps, circulating pumps, Desulfurization Pumps, filter press feed pumps, submersible pumps, chemical pumps, corrosion-resistant pumps, submersible slurry pumps, etc. The current market is mainly based on ZJ type Slurry pumps and Warman pumps are the main ones. Take Warman pumps as an example: For example: L-type pumps can be used for low-abrasive slurry with a concentration of less than 30%; AH-type pumps can be used for high-concentration arc abrasion slurry washing; When the surface height changes greatly and needs to be immersed in the liquid, the SP (SPR) pump should be used. Use HH or ZGB pumps when high-speed transportation is required.

In some process sections, special equipment should be selected as far as possible, such as the filter press feed pump in the coal washing system. Although other pump types can meet the parameter requirements, problems such as shaft breakage are prone to occur. Due to its special hydraulic performance, the feed pump fits the gradual process of the filter press from the cavity to the filling and then to the drying, which makes up for the effect that the general centrifugal pump cannot achieve.

Choose the right wetted parts material

The flow parts of the slurry pump are mainly made of common metal materials A05, A49 and natural rubber. A05 (KmTBCr27) anti-wear white cast iron is the most widely used material in slurry pumps. Its heat treatment hardness reaches HRC58-62. It is used for abrasive wear with relatively large impact loads and can be used in PH5-12 conditions. A49 (two-way stainless white iron) has good corrosion resistance and strong acid resistance. It is especially suitable for flue gas desulfurization devices and can be used in PH5-12 working conditions.

Natural rubber, natural rubber has many types, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. It is mainly suitable for fine particles without sharp adjustment angles, and also suitable for conveying weak acids. It is especially ideal in flue gas desulfurization, and has lower cost compared to metal materials. In addition, there are other less used materials such as A07, A33 and Hastelloy. Materials such as polyurethane and composite ceramics are gradually being promoted. In actual use, the solid particle size, temperature, chloride ion content and other factors of the medium should also be considered, so that the material of the flow part can maximize its advantages.

Choose the right speed

Under certain working conditions, the speed of the pump becomes a major factor affecting the service life of the flow parts. The lower the pump speed, the lower the relative speed of the impeller and the slurry, and the slower the wear rate of the impeller. However, it is not possible to blindly pursue a lower speed, because each model of pump is designed according to the design point, and the operating point should be in the appropriate flow area. In addition, from an economic point of view, low speed means that the product is large in size and high in price. The price of its supporting drive equipment will also increase, and the overall area of the equipment is also larger. Therefore, long product life and lower product investment should be considered Choose the specific model that best meets the requirements of the working conditions from the cost.

Improper selection of the pump type will cause the slurry pump to fail to work normally, and may even cause production shutdown. In order to give full play to the performance of the slurry pump, when actually choosing a slurry pump, you must fully consider the pump performance, applicable working conditions and other factors, and strive to make the best use of the material.
